iTunes reviews of "Slip Beneath the Covers" Vol. 1:
A cross between Patsy Cline & Andrea Marcovicci, Anastasia GIlliam has the soul of the south and the flair and polish of the Big Apple. Her musicality and interpretive skills breathes new life into this group of chestnuts. Stripped to the basics, one or two musicians accompanying a voice, Anastasia tackles each tune with fresh passion. Her crisp, clear sound is supported by a powerful set of pipes on the order of Tracy Nelson and kd Lang. Even though you probably have heard these tunes thousands of times, Anastasia is never imitative, she brings all of her vocal power and skill to discovering fresh musical ideas and lyrical nuances the original artists only scraped the surface of....this is acoustic minimalism at its best. Anastasia Gilliam's passionate vocals will haunt, caress & comfort you long after the music is finished. The sincerity conveyed her tone, combined with her more-often-than-not understated delivery, provides both a contemplative experience (for the deep listener) & an enjoyable environment (for those who wish simply to be entertained.) If you become addicted to her, as I have, check out her contributions as lead vocalist with the VooDoo Suns. Enjoy her live too, in Maui, where you'll discover that she's even better in person!
